This was a special treat at my grandmother’s house during the winter months…Mexican Hot Chocolate! She had a special chocolate pot and wooden mixing wand called a molinillo.
I thought there was a special secret recipe for this but it turns out she used chocolate squares available in most grocery stores – Abuelita by Nestle. The chocolate squares have large-granule sugar and artificial cinnamon flavor. Not very healthy! You melt those squares in milk and whip it up with your molinillo or a hand mixer.
I’ll give you a healthier version plus a modern gourmet version called Aztec Hot Chocolate. I use Young Living Vitality Cinnamon Essential Oil for these recipes. Why? Because cinnamon essential oil has powerful benefits beyond those offered by ground cinnamon. It’s concentrated and so yummy! It’s FDA approved as a food supplement.
