Ingredients
- Fresh scallions or green onions from the supermarket (I recommend starting with organic.)
- A pot, bucket or tub of some sort, filled with potting soil.
- Make sure your container has drainage holes at the bottom! If not, make them!
- Rocks, leaves and twigs for bottom of pot for extra drainage. (Optional)
- Small glass jar.
Instructions
- Whenever you use your store-bought green onions, cut off approximately two to three inches off the root end.
- Place these cut ends upright in water just to cover roots. Don't drown them or cover them with water or they will rot. Put just enough water to cover roots.
- Change water every couple of days.
- When shoots are three to four inches high, transplant to a pot filled with a potting mix.
- Keep watered but again, don't drown them.
- Snip your free onions whenever you'd like.
- Eventually, let some go to seed to grow more onions throughout the year. Enjoy!
