Are you a road warrior who is jumping for joy that summer is here and your next adventure awaits? Taking the “fam” on vacation, a weekend beach trip, or just a wandering road trip through your home state? Family road trips are some of my favorite memories of childhood. Driving to a new destination brought with it the excitement and promise of the unknown just around the bend.
I remember that while on those road trips, my siblings and cousins and I were playing board games and eating cookies in the back of our station wagon (in the 1960s)…and not wearing seat belts! (It was not a legal requirement back then.) I survived! Thank goodness that today we have better safety laws and lots of options for nutritious travel snacks and healthy, non-toxic road trip survival essentials.
Here are five of my favorite travel DIY’s to throw in the family First Aid kit. You will learn how to make a hotel room freshener, a potty spray, a “stuck-in-the-car” motion inhaler, an “I Have a Great Attitude” roll-on, and a safe, effective hand purifier. Enjoy!
P.S. If you want to know more about the essential oils I recommend taking the product tour. Check out the categories in Step 2.

Instructions
- Hotel Room Spray
- Combine salt and drops then fill bottle with distilled water.
- Shake bottle and spray around the room as needed to freshen stale hotel room.
- Potty Pourri Room Spray
- Combine salt and drops then fill bottle with distilled water.
- Shake bottle and give two sprays IN the toilet bowl ON the water PRIOR to using the restroom.
- The oil forms a thin "stink" shield. It works!
- Tummy Soother Travel Inhaler
- Place drops on the cotton insert included with the inhaler.
- Seal inhaler.
- Place inhaler about 1/2 inch from each nostril and breathe.
- Inhaler recipe is made strong enough to help with tummy trouble, but for a child, reduced inhaler drops by 2/3.
- I Have a Good Attitude Roll on
- Add drops and fill roller bottle to the top with carrier oil.
- For child, roll on feet and cover with socks, add a bit to a diffuser necklace.
- This combination also works great in a car or room diffuser.
- *Note: This combination has citrus essential oils which can make skin photosensitive and thus burn in the sunlight. Never use on skin exposed to sun. Use on bottoms of feet or part of body covered by clothing.
- Thieves Hand Purifier
- *Combine into 2 oz squeeze bottle
